The RISC OS News Network is an aggregator of news, blogs, fora and tweets about RISC OS and ARM, inspired by the continued fragmentation of the RISC OS community and current progresses in ARM developments.
Summaries of individual items may be viewed (where available) by hovering your cursor over them.
Nothing being displayed? Source feeds may be occasionally interrupted and become temporarily out of synchronisation with the WordPress RSS widgets.
Source feeds:
- RISC OS News and Comment: Google Groups (Acorn Announcements), The Icon Bar, My RISC OS, OS News, The RISC OS Blog, RISCOScode, RISC/Pi, Riscos.Info, RISCOSitory, RISC OS Open, ROLF (aggregated by RSSMix)
- RISC OS & ARM Tweets: Twitter Search
- RISC OS Discussions: Google Groups (Acorn Miscellaneous), The Icon Bar, RISC OS Open, Stardot (aggregated by RSSMix)
Cool. A web site for RISC OS & ARM.
🙂
Well, looks like a good start to centralise all the diverse ARM/RISC OS-related forums and news sites, but it’s near totally unusable for me.
Why? Well whenever I hover over a link to click, I get a giant ‘Snapshots’ popup that tries to generate a thumbnail (more bar coaster size) of the site I might be jumping to. It’s slow, pointless, cumbersome, distracting and blocks chunks of your website.
I can see the linked website in under a second or two on this Intel Mac with Chrome. It’s instant. I don’t need this Snapshots thing. Can it be turned off, please?
Otherwise: nice try.
Thank you for your comments. The Snapshots feature has been disabled.
Hi,
I think this is a really useful and clever facility.
It’s not a big deal but there are so many tweets coming through that none of them display for much longer than a few hours.
With this in mind, it might be an idea to separate out those from ARM from those specifically about RISC OS. I say this because I think most folks interested in the ARM material will be cutting edge tech folk and get the tweets direct to their mobile phones anyway. Whereas the average RISC OS user has probably yet to get into twitter, (or even have a decent mobile phone).
However they will be able to visit this website.
(Although a surprising number are not even on-line!)
Just a thought – discuss ?
Regards,
Martin.

Hi Martin,
Thank you for your comments. I’ll have a look at implementing your suggestion over the weekend.
Well, such an important development would merit a headline on RISCOScode praising The RISC OS News Network.
And a tweet ;-))
Regards,
Martin
How could I possibly resist such an offer?
OK, I have split the tweets, and also increased the number of non-ARM items as there’s quite a lot of activity all round. How does it look now?
Thank you for doing this.
I’ve updated the RISCOScode news, and will tweet the various headlines tomorrow so by the end of the day it should be looking most excellent.
Slightly scrappy at the moment as I’ve been retweeting stuff which is probably not that meaningful when only one half of a conversation is there.
Will sort….
Thanks again.
Martin.
Well you seem to be doing a sterling job cranking out so much. Hope you can keep it up for as long as possible. 🙂
Regards,
Iain
Hi Ian, There’s always quite a bit going on here and there. I’ll do my best to keep capturing it ! Think this weekend will see around six posts, mostly not reported elsewhere.
Regards,
Martin.
The RISC OS Blog is now operating under http://riscos.blog.com again, perhaps it could be re-added as a source?
Yes, certainly. Thanks for letting us know.
